Headstones and Cemetery Monuments in Mississauga

Haven Casket and Monument designs and engraves granite headstones, flat markers, and custom cemetery monuments for families across Mississauga. We are based in Markham and sell factory direct. You buy from us, not through a funeral home, so you skip the middle markup. One team handles the design, the cemetery paperwork, and delivery. We arrange the installation each cemetery requires.

Cemeteries We Serve in and Around Mississauga

We serve the main cemeteries in Mississauga. Each is run by a different operator, and each sets its own rules for monuments.

Cemetery Operator Location
Assumption Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home Catholic Cemeteries, Archdiocese of Toronto 6933 Tomken Road
Mount Peace Cemetery Catholic (administered by Assumption) 3204 Cawthra Road
St. John’s Dixie Cemetery and Crematorium Anglican 737 Dundas Street East (historic Dixie)
Springcreek Cemetery Nondenominational, nonprofit 1390 Clarkson Road North (Clarkson and Lorne Park)
Erindale Cosmopolitan Cemetery City of Mississauga Mississauga Road and Dundas Street West
Streetsville Public Cemetery City of Mississauga 1786 Bristol Road West
Meadowvale Cemetery Mount Pleasant Group 7732 Mavis Road, Brampton (serves Mississauga)

Meadowvale sits just north in Brampton and serves many Mississauga families. It has upright monument lots and flat marker sections used by several communities. We deliver there too. For a wider view of cemeteries and plot pricing across the region, see our GTA cemetery guide and our Ontario cemetery map.

Assumption is the large Catholic cemetery here. It was consecrated in 1968 and has shrine sections for several of the city’s ethnic communities, plus the Our Lady of Fatima Mausoleum. Muslim families are also served by the Islamic sections at Meadowvale in Brampton. We engrave monuments to suit each family’s traditions and wishes.

Upright Monument or Flat Marker? The Rule Changes by Cemetery and Section

The cemetery decides what marker you can place. Often the exact section or lot decides it, not you. Confirm the rule before you choose a design.

Upright granite headstone next to a flat granite marker in a cemetery
Operator Upright monument Flat or bronze marker Who builds the foundation
Catholic (Assumption, Mount Peace) Allowed in monument lots, one per lot (not in flat marker graves) Required in the flat marker sections, set flush on a granite base The cemetery (CCFS) builds it, at least four feet deep, at the family’s cost, after the design is approved
Mount Pleasant Group (Meadowvale) Allowed in monument lots Required in flat marker sections The cemetery only. No outside contractor may pour it
City of Mississauga (Erindale, Streetsville) Separate upright category, approval required first Markers must sit flush with the ground, up to 24 by 18 inches The City only, with the foundation fee paid to the City
St. John’s Dixie (Anglican) Allowed, single and double upright monuments offered Flat and pillow markers offered The cemetery charges a separate foundation and setting fee

At Mount Pleasant Group cemeteries like Meadowvale, the cemetery pours the foundation and sets the monument. You still order the monument from a provider like Haven. At the Catholic cemeteries, the lot you bought decides if an upright stone is allowed. A flat marker section will never take one. We check your section’s rule before we start, so nothing you approve gets refused later.

Under Ontario law, every cemetery must tell you its marker restrictions before you sign a contract. Most also require natural granite or bronze, set out in each cemetery’s own bylaws. You can read the province’s rules at the Bereavement Authority of Ontario. The Mount Pleasant Group posts its full cemetery bylaws online.

Cemetery Foundation Fees in Mississauga

Yes, a Mississauga cemetery charges a foundation fee, and it is separate from the monument price. Almost every Mississauga cemetery requires a concrete foundation under an upright monument so it stays level and stable. Two things families are often not told up front:

  • The cemetery builds the foundation, not us, and it must match your monument’s base.
  • You pay the foundation fee straight to the cemetery. A plot price usually covers only the interment right, not the foundation or the setting.

The cemetery also approves your design, size, material, and inscription before delivery. At most cemeteries, the monument cannot be delivered until the foundation is built. At the Catholic cemeteries, the foundation goes at least four feet deep, and only cemetery staff pour it, as set out in the Catholic Cemeteries bylaws. The City of Mississauga follows the same rule, so only its own staff build the foundation at its cemeteries. We handle the paperwork and book the foundation for you. For current foundation and plot costs, see our GTA cemetery guide.

Winter and Seasonal Installation in Mississauga

Most Mississauga cemeteries stop setting monuments in winter and start again in spring. The bylaws put it in writing. The City of Mississauga allows no marker delivery between November 1 and March 31. The Catholic cemeteries pour foundations from May 15 to November 30, and set bronze markers from April 15 to November 30. When the ground is frozen, cemeteries will not pour foundations or set monuments, so the work pauses through the cold months. As the Ontario Monument Builders Association notes, winter is a good time to order, with installation in spring. Order in winter and we design and engrave right away. Then we schedule the installation for the first spring window once the ground thaws. Adding a final date to a monument already in the cemetery can often be done on site during the open season.

How Our Mississauga Process Works

  1. Design and quote. We help you pick the granite colour, shape, and inscription, and give you a direct price with no funeral home markup.
  2. Cemetery approval. We confirm your section’s rules and send the design, size, and inscription to the cemetery.
  3. Engraving in Markham. Your monument is designed and engraved in Markham.
  4. Foundation and installation. We book the cemetery foundation. Then we deliver the monument and arrange the installation once the foundation is ready.

What Is Included With Every Monument

Every Haven monument for a Mississauga family includes the design help, the granite, the engraving and artwork, delivery to the cemetery, and installation coordination. Frequently Asked Questions

Do you deliver headstones and monuments to Mississauga cemeteries?

Yes. We are based in Markham. We deliver granite headstones, flat markers, and custom monuments to cemeteries across Mississauga, and we arrange the setting each cemetery requires. That includes Assumption, Mount Peace, St. John’s Dixie, Springcreek, the municipal cemeteries, and Meadowvale just north in Brampton.

Can I put an upright headstone at any Mississauga cemetery?

Not always. Some flat marker sections at the Catholic and City of Mississauga cemeteries allow only a marker set flush with the ground. Whether an upright monument is allowed depends on the cemetery and the lot you buy. We confirm your section’s rule before we start your design.

Is the cemetery foundation included in the monument price?

No. The cemetery builds the foundation and you pay for it separately, straight to the cemetery. It is not part of the monument price, and usually not part of the plot price either. We book it for you.

How long does a Mississauga headstone installation take?

Design and engraving typically take a few weeks. Then the cemetery approves the monument and builds the foundation before setting. In winter the work waits for spring, and the exact timing depends on the cemetery. The City cemeteries take markers again after March 31. The Catholic cemeteries set bronze markers from April 15 and pour foundations from May 15.

Do you offer direct pricing to Mississauga families?

Yes. We design and engrave granite monuments in Markham and sell direct. Mississauga families skip the funeral home markup.
