Haven Casket and Monument serves Scarborough families with granite headstones, flat markers, and custom cemetery monuments. Our team designs and engraves in Markham, just up the road, and sells factory direct. Buying from us instead of a cemetery removes the middle markup. One team looks after the design, the cemetery paperwork, and the delivery. We install the monument as well, and that is included in the price we quote. At a few GTA cemeteries, Resthaven among them, the cemetery sets the monument and bills your family for it, and whether that applies can depend on the size of the monument. Flat marker setting works differently. Most cemeteries set the marker themselves and charge your family a setting fee.
Cemeteries We Serve in Scarborough
Scarborough has three main active cemeteries. Each has its own operator, and each operator writes its own monument rules.
| Cemetery | Operator | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre | Mount Pleasant Group | 625 Birchmount Road |
| Resthaven Memorial Gardens | Arbor Memorial | 2700 Kingston Road |
| St. Margaret’s-in-the-Pines Cemetery | Anglican | 4130 Lawrence Avenue East, West Hill |
Pine Hills dates to 1928 and is run by the Mount Pleasant Group. Its grounds follow Massey Creek under roughly 20,000 mature trees, and it holds a large veterans section. Resthaven Memorial Gardens has served families on Kingston Road since 1925. St. Margaret’s-in-the-Pines in West Hill is older still. It was established in 1832, and a historic chapel stands on its grounds. For a wider view of cemeteries and plot pricing across the region, see our GTA cemetery guide and our Ontario cemetery map.
Chinese, Tamil, Sri Lankan, and Filipino families all call Scarborough home, with many Chinese families around Agincourt. We engrave monuments in Chinese, Tamil, and many other languages and scripts. The work is designed and engraved in Markham and matched to your family’s language, faith, and tradition.
Catholic families in Scarborough often choose Christ the King Catholic Cemetery, just over the Markham border. We deliver there too and follow that cemetery’s rules.
Upright Monument or Flat Marker? The Rule Changes by Cemetery and Section
What you can place depends on the cemetery, and often on the exact section or lot. Ask before you settle on a design.
| Operator | Upright monument | Flat or bronze marker | Who builds the foundation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mount Pleasant Group (Pine Hills) | Allowed in monument lots | Required in flat marker sections | The cemetery only pours the foundation, and that fee is billed to the family. Approval is required before delivery. Haven sets the monument |
| Arbor Memorial (Resthaven) | Offered | Offered | The cemetery pours the foundation at the family’s expense, at least 48 inches deep. The cemetery also sets the monument and bills the family, and whether that applies can depend on the size of the monument |
At Pine Hills, Mount Pleasant Group staff pour the foundation and we set the monument on it. Your monument still comes from Haven, and the setting is included in our price. At Resthaven, the cemetery pours the foundation at your expense, at least 48 inches deep, and the cemetery also sets the monument and bills your family. Whether that applies can depend on the size of the monument. We confirm your section’s rule first, so the cemetery will not reject the design you approve.
Ontario law requires every cemetery to disclose its bylaws and price list before you sign. Most cemeteries also require natural granite or bronze, set out in their own bylaws. See the Bereavement Authority of Ontario for the province’s rules. The Mount Pleasant Group posts its cemetery bylaws online.
Cemetery Foundation Fees in Scarborough
In Scarborough the foundation fee is its own charge, paid to the cemetery. A concrete foundation keeps an upright monument level, and almost every cemetery requires one. Keep two things in mind:
- Most of the time the cemetery pours the base itself, sized to your monument. We have no part in that work.
- That charge lands on the cemetery’s own invoice. The plot fee normally covers the interment right and stops there.
Cemeteries generally approve the design, size, material, and inscription before delivery. Most will not take delivery until the foundation is in. At Resthaven the foundation goes at least 48 inches deep, at the family’s expense. At Resthaven the cemetery does the setting and bills your family, and whether that applies can depend on the size of the monument. Our GTA cemetery guide lists current foundation and plot costs.
Winter and Seasonal Installation in Scarborough
Monument setting stops for the Scarborough winter. Frozen ground means no foundations and no setting, so cemeteries wait for the spring thaw. The Ontario Monument Builders Association suggests ordering in winter for a spring installation. We design and engrave right away and hold your place for the first spring window. Final dates can often be engraved on site in the open season.
How Our Scarborough Process Works
- Design and quote. Choose the granite colour, shape, and inscription with our help. You get a direct price, free of cemetery markup.
- Cemetery approval. We check your section’s rules and submit the design, size, and inscription for approval.
- Engraving in Markham. The monument is designed and engraved in Markham, then readied for delivery.
- Foundation and installation. Once the cemetery builds the foundation, we deliver the monument and set it, and that setting is included in our price. At Resthaven and a few other GTA cemeteries the cemetery does the setting and bills your family, and whether that applies can depend on the size of the monument.
What Is Included With Every Monument
Design help, the granite, the engraving and artwork, delivery to the cemetery, and the installation all come with a Haven monument. At a few GTA cemeteries the cemetery sets the monument and bills your family instead, and whether that applies can depend on the size of the monument. Granite is named properly here: black, grey, Paradiso, Bahama Blue, Indian Red, and more. See them all on our headstones and upright monuments page. Weigh your options on the flat markers and bronze markers pages. Or go fully custom.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you deliver headstones and monuments to Scarborough cemeteries?
Yes. From our Markham base we deliver granite headstones, flat markers, and custom monuments across Scarborough. We set the monument at Pine Hills and at Christ the King just over the Markham border, and that setting is included in our price. At Resthaven the cemetery does the setting and bills your family, and whether that applies can depend on the size of the monument. We deliver to St. Margaret’s-in-the-Pines as well and follow the rules there.
Can you engrave a headstone in Chinese or Tamil?
Yes. We engrave Chinese, Tamil, and many other languages and scripts. Every piece is designed and engraved in Markham. We match the characters, layout, and artwork to your family’s tradition.
Can I put an upright headstone at any Scarborough cemetery?
Not everywhere. Flat marker sections take only a flush marker, and the rule follows the section or lot you buy. We look up your section’s rule before the design work starts.
Is the cemetery foundation included in the monument price?
No. In most cases the cemetery builds the foundation and charges you for it directly. It sits outside the monument price, and usually outside the plot price too. We handle the booking.
Do you offer direct pricing to Scarborough families?
Yes. Every monument is designed and engraved in Markham and sold direct, so Scarborough families avoid the cemetery markup.
