Angel Headstones

Sculpted Comfort in Lasting Granite

Angel headstones turn a memorial into a figure of comfort. The carved angel is the most requested sculpted design we offer. We supply 10 to 15 angel monuments a year across the GTA. Every one is factory direct. That keeps a fully carved piece within reach of families who thought sculpture was beyond their budget. We normally keep our most popular angel in stock. When it is on the floor, you can see a finished carved angel in person, not in a catalogue. Call ahead and we will confirm.

In Stock or Custom Ordered

Angel monuments follow one of two paths, and the difference is mostly time.

In stock. We normally keep the angel with heart, our most popular style, in stock in Markham. You choose the piece, we engrave the inscription, and we handle the cemetery paperwork. Installation is usually done 4 to 6 weeks after the cemetery approves the design. The stone itself does not change. In stock pieces are customized through the engraving only.

Custom ordered. A different size, a different pose, a standing angel, or a carved statue is made to order. Custom pieces take about 12 weeks. You approve the design first, and production starts only after that approval. You will also see the finished piece before we install it, so nothing goes to the cemetery unseen.

Some families have specific requirements for the face, the fingers, or the feather detail on the wings. Custom orders can be carved to those standards. If you have seen an angel design anywhere else, bring a photo and we can quote a matching piece.

Angel Monument Styles

Most angel headstones pair a sculpted figure with a polished tablet that carries the inscription. These are the styles families ask for most:

  • Angel with heart. A carved angel embraces or rests on a heart shaped tablet. The front of the heart stays polished for the inscription. This is our best seller and the style we normally keep in stock.
  • Weeping angel headstone. The angel bows or kneels in mourning, a style drawn from classic Victorian cemetery sculpture.
  • Double angels. Two facing angels frame a companion monument, one for each name. The angels and tablet are carved from one piece of stone, not assembled from parts.
  • Standing angels. Full sculpted figures for larger lots. These are the biggest pieces we quote, and each one is priced individually.
  • Kneeling and child angels. Smaller praying or resting figures, often chosen for a child or placed beside an upright tablet.

Families searching for angel grave markers or angels for headstones usually mean one of these carved styles.

Is an Angel Monument One Piece or Two?

This is one of the two questions families ask us most. The answer: our carved angels are one piece of stone. The figure and the tablet are carved from a single block of granite, including double angel designs. Nothing is glued or pinned on. The carver removes stone from one block until the angel and the tablet emerge together.

You can see the proof in the finish. The figure is left natural while the tablet is polished, and both are the same stone. One piece construction means there is no joint to shift or open over time. That includes our standing statue monuments. A Mary or Jesus figure beside a tablet is carved as one piece too.

Cemetery Rules for Angel Monuments

The other question we answer constantly: what size is permitted? An angel monument is an irregular shape, so the answer depends on how your cemetery measures it. Some cemeteries, including the Mount Pleasant Group properties, measure a monument by its surface area. At those cemeteries the open space around the wings does not count the way a solid rectangle would. Families can normally go slightly bigger than they expected.

Other cemeteries measure differently, height limits still apply in some sections, and every cemetery has its own bylaws. We check the rules with your cemetery before any design work begins. Installation is scheduled after the cemetery approves the design.

Religious Statue Monuments

Angels are not the only sculpted figures we supply. Carved statue headstones of Mary or Jesus stand beside a tablet with a gold cross. They are a lasting choice for Catholic and Orthodox families. A statue can stand beside the tablet or be carved into the stone itself.

Granite Colours and Carving Detail

Most carved angels are done in Black granite. The figure is left in a natural finish that shows as a soft dark grey against the polished black. That contrast makes the angel stand out, and it comes from one stone, not two. The polished tablet keeps strong contrast for the inscription. Fine details like feathers, hair, and folded robes read clearly in the natural finish. The same designs can be quoted in Light Grey, Bahama Blue, Pink, and other colours. See our granite headstone colours chart.

A common worry is that a carved figure will weather faster than a plain stone. It will not. Granite carving is as durable as any other monument shape.

How Much Does an Angel Headstone Cost

Our most affordable angel monument is an angel sitting on a heart with an 18 by 24 inch tablet. It is priced at $2,800. That includes the carved figure and the tablet as one piece of granite. From there, price depends on the size of the figure, the granite colour, and how detailed the carving is. Large standing angels for bigger lots are quoted individually. Custom monument work at Haven starts at $2,500. Our monument cost guide explains what is included and what cemeteries charge on top.

FAQ

How much does an angel headstone cost?

Our most affordable angel monument is an angel sitting on a heart with an 18 by 24 inch tablet. It is priced at $2,800. Price rises with figure size, granite colour, and carving detail. Large standing angels for bigger lots are quoted individually at the showroom.

How long does an angel monument take?

We normally keep the angel with heart in stock in Markham. In stock pieces are engraved and installed about 4 to 6 weeks after the cemetery approves the design. Custom angel orders take about 12 weeks, and you see the finished piece before installation.

Is an angel headstone one piece or two?

Our carved angels are one piece of stone. The figure and tablet are carved from a single granite block, including double angel designs. One piece construction leaves no joint to shift or open over time.

What size of angel monument will my cemetery allow?

That depends on how your cemetery measures monuments. Some cemeteries, including the Mount Pleasant Group properties, go by surface area. There the open space around the wings does not count against you, and families can normally go slightly bigger. Other cemeteries measure differently. We confirm your cemetery rules before design work begins.

What is a weeping angel headstone?

A weeping angel headstone shows the angel bowed or kneeling in mourning, often draped over the stone. The style comes from classic Victorian cemetery sculpture and remains one of the most requested carved designs.

Do you offer statue monuments of Mary or Jesus?

Yes. Carved statue headstones of Mary, Jesus, and other religious figures are available. A statue can stand beside the tablet or be carved into the stone, with a gold cross and inscription panel.

Which granite colour is best for an angel monument?

Black granite is the most common choice for an angel monument. The carved angel is left in a natural finish that shows as dark grey against the polished black. That makes the figure stand out and keeps the inscription sharp. The same designs can be quoted in Light Grey, Bahama Blue, Pink, and other colours.
